Giovanna Marini and Genazzano Project: personal and cultural sedimentations.

D.O. The collaboration between Giovanna Marini and Genazzano Project.

A.S. For the witness, Giovanna Marini’s involvement with Genazzano Project is a recent discovery. While Carla Tatò’s name remained present in collective memory, Marini’s did not occupy a similar place within the local cultural horizon.

D.O. Donatella Orecchia asks how the experience of Genazzano Project became sedimented within the witness’s own life experience.

A.S. In terms of cultural sedimentation, Annamaria Santelli acknowledges that the diffuse experience of those years provided her with what she describes as a “cultural advantage”: an expansion of horizons linking artistic and political dimensions. The opportunity to occupy public space, engage in conversations, and experience a community shaped by cultural practices is perceived as an emancipatory element in relation to her family background.

D.O. Mention of Sylvano Bussotti.

A.S. Among the cultural figures she later encountered is Sylvano Bussotti, further confirming the gradual construction of a personal cultural genealogy.

00:11:11 – 00:13:00

Encountering music and political activism.

D.O. Donatella Orecchia asks about the witness’s relationship with music.

A.S. Her engagement with music began during adolescence through singing and playing guitar in political contexts, particularly during electoral campaigns. Music and activism became closely intertwined. Giovanna Marini’s songs reached the witness primarily as political songs.

00:13:01 – 00:16:35

Genazzano Project and its legacy: a need for art and culture.

D.O. Donatella Orecchia reflects on the discussion so far, suggesting that in Annamaria Santelli’s personal experience, Genazzano Project left behind a need for art and culture connected to political engagement.

A.S. The convergence of the figures of Giovanna Marini and Carla Tatò is perceived as emotionally significant, although fully understood only in adulthood. The witness emphasizes the uniqueness of that historical conjunction of place and time, arguing that such an experience could only have emerged in Genazzano under those specific circumstances. While her family environment was not strongly characterized by artistic or political engagement, it was marked by practices of conviviality and social gathering. In contrast with the present, she perceives a process of cultural decline and generational fragmentation within the town.

00:16:36 – 00:21:16

Local culture and Uscite. Gigi Proietti in Genazzano..

C.T. Carla Tatò foregrounds the theme of peasant culture, asking whether the witness’s family cultivated vineyards. She recalls Uscite and Jannis Kounellis’s installation featuring a pyramid of wine bottles and a curtain made of glasses.

A.S. The witness confirms that her father, Roberto Santelli, owned a vineyard and recognizes local figures such as the farmer Agostino Palumbo.

C.T. Carla Tatò notes that it was Agostino Palumbo and Roberto Santelli who proposed organizing the wine festival Vinaliae in Genazzano.

A.S. The witness also recalls the arrival of actor Gigi Proietti in Genazzano.

C.T. Carla Tatò shows additional archival photographs related to Uscite (Carlo Quartucci e Carla Tatò Fonds FQT).

00:21:17 – 00:26:31

Geneaologia.

D.O. Donatella Orecchia refers to an action that involved the entire town: Luciano Fabro’s Genealogia. .

A.S. When prompted about Genealogia, the witness states that she has no recollection of the action.

C.T. Carla Tatò reconstructs the event, describing it as a socially negotiated intervention carried out with the support of both the parish priest and the municipal administration. She explains the use of the loudspeaker system along Corso Vannettelli and discusses both the structure of Genealogia and its reception within the community of Genazzano.

Closing greetings.
